A website by definition is “ a set of interconnected webpages, usually including a homepage, generally located on the same server, and prepared and maintained as a collection of information by a person, group, or organization” (Dictionary.com).
Regardless of the size of the company, a website is a popular method for businesses to get visibility on the Internet. Of all small and medium-sized businesses, 52 percent had a website in June 2004 according to a Kelsey Group study. Moreover, 30 percent of those businesses that did not have a website at that time indicated that they intend to have a company website within 12 months of the date of the study. (Kelsey Group 2004b.) According to another study conducted by hosting and e-commerce services provider Interland, the owners of small and medium-sized businesses are also relying on their websites more than ever. Seventy-seven percent of the respondents to the survey reported that their business is “healthier, more competitive and has better economic footing thanks to their Web site”, while 81 percent said that their website generates leads.
